10 million babies worldwide are born each year with a serious birth defect. In India birth defects are a major public health problem because they account for 10% of childhood mortality rate. Some major birth defects are preventable; and many are completely treatable. Thus awareness regarding prevention and proper care of birth defects is crucial. 3rd March is marked as a World Birth Defect Day worldwide. To mark this day, Spina Bifida Foundation members had organized a Mega event at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai on 4th March, 2018



Meyer Vitabiotics in joint association with Spina Bifida Foundation has started a social initiative to create a widespread awareness about the importance of Folic Acid during peri-conception and throughout pregnancy. To take this initiative a step forward Meyer Vitabiotics and Spina Bifida Foundation has started an initiative to enroll doctors and register the doctors for Spina Foundation. This small step will take a giant leap as it will help for the treatment of patients suffering from Spina Bifida and their rehabilitation. Doctors too have been supporting the social cause wholeheartedly and our common mission to make India free from the clutches of Spina Bifida seems to be not too far.

Meyer Vitabiotics conducted Go Folic event in Vadodara on 24th September, 2017. Around 150 doctors attended and agreed that Spina Bifida and Birth defects are the most prominent problems which are overlooked by us. Honorable Mayor of Vadodara “Bharat Dangar” attended the press conference where he highlighted the issue of Spina Bifida and Birth defects and he would give his support for this social cause.

Birth Defects Awareness Campaign ‘GO FOLIC’ sets foot in Aurangabad

Aurangabad – 11th & 12th March 2017, Aurangabad’s first ever public awareness campaign on Prevention of Birth Defects, ‘GO FOLIC’ was formally initiated by Dr. Santosh Karmarkar, Consultant Paediatric Surgeon and Founder Trustee of Spina Bifida Foundation, Mrs. Uma Kalekar, Director, Meyer Vitabiotics. In presence of medical professionals & distinguished people from the society. Meyer Vitabiotics,a leading pharmaceutical company of India and Spina Bifida Foundation have come together to reach out to masses in enhancing the awareness of debilitating birth defects like Spina Bifida. Free patient camp (on 11th March) was organized at Dr.Totla’s hospital followed by CME (on 12th March) at Hotel Rama International, Aurangabad.



CME on ‘A Multidisciplinary Outlook on Prevention & Management of Birth Defects’ at Imphal – 3rd September 2016

A special scientific CME was organized for Doctors at Imphal on 3rd September 2016. Dr. Santosh Karmarkar, Leading Paediatric Surgeon, Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai & Founder of Spina Bifida Foundation was the Keynote Speaker for the same. Prof. Kh. Tomba Singh - Senior Consultant, Maipakpi Maternity & Child Hospital; Prof. Th. Bidhumukhi Devi – Dept. of OBGY, JNIMS, Imphal; Dr. Kh. RatanKumar - Senior Consultant, Mothers' Care Children Hospital were the esteemed chairpersons for the event.


CME for Doctors on Birth Defects Prevention at Kankavali, Sindhudurg

On 16th & 17th of April 2016 a press conference & CME for Doctors on Birth Defects Prevention was organized at Kankavali, Sindhudurg respectively under the Go Folic campaign. The objective of the same was to initiate an awareness drive on Birth Defects for Doctors in interiors & rural areas to announce the activities planned under the Go Folic campaign. These include free patient check-up camps, seminars for paramedical staff in such districts & display of Posters for awareness on birth defects prevention across the country.
